Tamil Nadu Residents Protest Against Hindi Imposition with Rangoli Messages

Residents of Ayapakkam Housing Board in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu, staged a unique protest on Wednesday against the Central government’s alleged Hindi imposition. They drew kolams (rangoli) with messages such as “Welcome Tamil language” and “Stop Hindi imposition” outside their homes.

Udhayanidhi Stalin Warns Against Hindi Threat

The protest follows DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks that Hindi has wiped out several North Indian languages and could endanger Tamil if imposed in the state.

During a protest by the INDIA bloc in Tamil Nadu, leaders accused the BJP-led central government of infringing on state rights, denying budget allocations, and withholding educational funds.

Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Statement

  • “Hindi has destroyed languages like Rajasthani, Haryanvi, and Bhojpuri. The same fate awaits Tamil if imposed.”
  • “99% of Tamilians working abroad and in top institutions like ISRO studied in government schools without Hindi.”
  • “If the Centre continues to deny funds, protests will escalate. ‘Go back Modi’ slogans will turn into ‘Get out Modi’.”

Udhayanidhi also recalled martyrs like Thalamuthu, Natarajan, and Keezhapalur Chinnasamy, who sacrificed their lives in Tamil Nadu’s anti-Hindi agitations.

INDIA Bloc Unites Against ‘One Nation, One Language’ Policy

The protest saw participation from prominent leaders:

  • DMK Treasurer T R Baalu
  • VCK President Thol Thirumavalavan
  • TNCC Chief K Selvaperunthagai
  • MDMK Leader Vaiko
  • CPI(M) State Secretary P Shanmugam
  • CPI State Secretary R Mutharasan
  • Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi Founder T Velmurugan
  • KMDK President E R Eswaran

Thirumavalavan alleged that the BJP was pushing Hindi as part of its ‘One Nation, One Language’ agenda to make Hindi the national language.

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi Criticizes Protesters

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi took a veiled swipe at Tamil leaders, calling their claims to protect Tamil culture “hollow rhetoric.”

At an event honoring Padma Shri awardee Seeni Viswanathan, Ravi stressed the need to preserve Tamil’s literary heritage. He questioned why Tamil Nadu universities had not established a Bharathiar Chair, while Banaras Hindu University (BHU) did under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Governor Ravi’s Remarks

  • “Bharathiar’s legacy is undermined by a chauvinistic ecosystem in Tamil Nadu.”
  • “This ecosystem erases Bharathiar’s contributions because he envisioned an inclusive Bharat and respected the Vedas.”

The language controversy continues to spark heated debates in Tamil Nadu, as protests against Hindi imposition gain momentum.
