
Fatal Crash Involving Police Control Room Van
In a tragic incident on the Cuttack-Paradip road early Tuesday morning, two policemen lost their lives, and another sustained critical injuries when a speeding sand-laden truck rammed into a Police Control Room (PCR) van. The officers were on patrol duty at the time of the accident.
Details of the Incident
Around 4:30 AM, the PCR van, operated by Jagannath Mahali (the driver), along with two other officers, was performing a routine patrol when the collision occurred. The impact resulted in the instant deaths of Mahali and Lokanath Shabar, a member of the Odisha Auxiliary Police Force. Pabitra Mohan Sethi, the third officer in the van, was critically injured and rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where his condition was reported as stable.
Investigation and Arrest
Following the incident, authorities promptly arrested the truck driver, and investigations are underway. Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo, the Cuttack DCP, confirmed the details and assured further investigation into the matter.
Government’s Response
In a show of sympathy and support, Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Majhi expressed his sorrow over the loss. He announced an ex gratia payment of ₹10 lakh each for the families of the deceased officers to help them cope with the sudden tragedy.
