Odisha Government Mandates Chief Secretary’s Approval for IAS Officers’ Leave

The Odisha government has issued a new notification making it mandatory for Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers to obtain prior approval from the Chief Secretary before taking leave.

Reason Behind the Decision

This decision comes after reports revealed that several officers were taking leave without authorization, causing disruptions in administrative work and public service delivery. The government has taken strict measures to ensure discipline within the bureaucratic system.

Official Notification Details

The Odisha General Administration and Public Grievance Department issued the directive stating that unauthorized leave and leaving headquarters without permission have been creating significant challenges in governance.

The notification emphasized:

  • IAS officers must obtain permission from the Chief Secretary before taking leave or leaving their headquarters.
  • Unauthorized absence will lead to strict action.
  • Officers must follow the guidelines to ensure smooth administration.

Government’s Warning

The state administration has warned that failure to comply with these new rules will result in disciplinary action. The notification aims to ensure accountability, efficiency, and seamless governance.

This directive is to be strictly followed by all IAS officers in Odisha from now on.
