Tragic Incident in Puri
A 15-year-old girl from Puri district, Odisha, has died after suffering severe burn injuries. She passed away on Saturday evening while receiving treatment at AIIMS Delhi. The case first came to light on July 19, when her mother alleged that three men had abducted her daughter and set her on fire near their home.
Father Breaks Silence
In a video message, the girl’s father shared a different version of events. He said, “The government did everything possible to save my daughter. She ended her life because she was under mental pressure. Please don’t politicize this matter and pray for her soul.” His statement has raised new questions in the ongoing investigation.
Police Findings So Far
Odisha Police stated that no outsider was involved in the incident. Officers recorded the girl’s statement three times during her treatment. Based on these statements and the evidence collected, they concluded no third-party involvement. However, police have not yet explained how the fire started.
The police also requested the public not to spread rumors. In a statement on X, they said, “We are deeply saddened by the girl’s death. Our investigation shows no one else was involved. We urge everyone to avoid making sensitive comments during this difficult time.”
Situation in the Village
Bayabar village, where the girl lived, remains tense. Most residents are staying indoors. Police officers have been deployed to maintain peace near the girl’s home and in nearby areas. Security in the state capital has also been tightened, especially near the residences of ministers and the chief minister.
Evidence and Investigation Efforts
After the FIR, senior police officials visited the site. Forensic experts and dog squads were also brought in to collect evidence. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been assigned to handle the case. The girl’s body will undergo postmortem in Delhi, where her family has traveled.
