IND vs PAK Women’s World Cup 2025: Muneeba Ali Run-Out Controversy Resolved

A run-out controversy during the India vs Pakistan Women’s World Cup match has sparked widespread debate, after Muneeba Ali’s dismissal became a turning point in Pakistan’s chase.

Pakistan’s fast bowler Diana Baig has confirmed that the issue surrounding the controversial dismissal has now been resolved, though the incident continues to dominate cricket discussions and intensify the India–Pakistan rivalry.

Controversial Dismissal During a Crucial Chase

The incident occurred during Pakistan’s chase of 248 runs in the high-stakes World Cup match. In the fourth over’s final delivery, Indian players appealed for LBW against Muneeba off Kranti Gaud’s bowling.

The on-field umpire initially denied the appeal, and Muneeba had grounded her bat behind the crease. But in a split second, she lifted her bat, and Deepti Sharma’s throw from slip hit the stumps. With no part of her bat or body behind the crease, the third umpire was called in to review the situation.

Confusing Umpire Decisions Spark Debate

The decision process created confusion for players and fans alike.

  • The first verdict flashed on the big screen as ‘Not Out’, prompting Indian fielders to return to their positions.

  • Moments later, the verdict changed to ‘Out’, stunning Muneeba and triggering celebrations from the Indian side.

The third umpire’s contradictory signals led to heated discussions, with commentators and spectators questioning the decision’s clarity.

Pakistan Confirms Resolution Post-Match

Following Pakistan’s 88-run defeat, Diana Baig addressed the issue in the post-match interaction.

“Muneeba’s run-out issue has already been settled, I believe. I don’t want to talk much about it now. Whatever happened and whatever the situation was, I think it has been resolved,” she said.

On-Field Drama and Rule Clarification

After being declared out for 2 runs off 12 balls, Muneeba paused to seek clarification from the umpires. Pakistan captain Fatima Sana consulted fourth umpire Kim Cotton, leading to a brief delay. Eventually, Muneeba was asked to leave the field.

The ICC Playing Condition 30.1.2 explains:

“A batter shall not be considered out of his ground if, in running or diving towards his ground and beyond, and having grounded some part of his person or bat beyond the popping crease, there is subsequent loss of contact between the ground and any part of his person or bat, or between the bat and person.”

The rule has reignited discussions about interpretation during close run-out decisions, with fans calling for post-match panel reviews for controversial dismissals.

Impact on the Match and Rivalry

Muneeba’s early dismissal proved costly for Pakistan. The team struggled to recover, eventually falling 88 runs short of India’s total.

The incident has added a new chapter to the intense India–Pakistan cricket rivalry, fueling conversations across social media and sports forums.
