Bali Yatra Returns to Its Traditional Site
The Cuttack administration has confirmed that this year’s Bali Yatra festival will be held on ‘Upar Padia’, near Barabati Fort.
This decision ends weeks of debate and restores the event to its historic and cultural home.
The administration submitted an affidavit to the Orissa High Court, confirming the venue. The court reviewed the proposal and approved it, considering the public’s emotional connection and the festival’s long tradition.
High Court Supports the Decision
The High Court stated that Bali Yatra carries deep emotional and cultural value for the people of Odisha.
Therefore, it should be organized in a way that preserves this heritage.
Earlier, officials had planned to use only the lower ground, which sparked public opposition. Many traders, cultural groups, and local residents urged the government to keep the traditional upper ground.
After several discussions and appeals, the district administration reaffirmed its decision to host the fair on Upar Padia. This move has received broad public support.
Festival Area Declared ‘No Drone Zone’
Meanwhile, the administration has also declared the Bali Yatra Ground and nearby areas a ‘No Drone Zone’.
This restriction will be in effect from November 1 to November 15, 2025.
The rule aims to ensure public safety and smooth event management during the festival. Each year, the Bali Yatra draws millions of visitors who come to celebrate Odisha’s maritime history.
Celebrating Odisha’s Maritime Legacy
The Bali Yatra, which means “voyage to Bali”, is one of India’s oldest and biggest open-air festivals.
It celebrates the ancient sea trade between Odisha and Southeast Asia.
Every year, the fair attracts artisans, traders, cultural performers, and tourists from across the world. The event not only promotes Odisha’s heritage but also supports local trade and tourism.
