IMD Warns of Heavy Rainfall in Odisha Due to Bay of Bengal Low-Pressure System

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warnings for heavy rainfall in Odisha due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. The impacted districts include Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Koraput. Rainfall is expected to continue throughout the day.

Affected Regions and Forecast

The IMD also predicts light rainfall in additional districts, including Balasore, Boudh, Jajpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Koraput, and Malkangiri. Coastal Odisha is likely to experience rainfall and overcast conditions.

Persistent Weather Patterns

The low-pressure area has shifted west-southwest towards the South Andhra Pradesh-North Tamil Nadu coasts, continuing to bring rainfall to Odisha. This system follows a previous low-pressure that caused intermittent rainfall in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

Rainfall Records and Impacts

In the last rainfall event, Ranipur in Nayagarh district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 108.4 mm, while areas such as Jatni, Begunia, and Banpur in Khordha districts received over 70 mm of rainfall.
